Mother loved the day

she was born on—

she joked she was born

with a big bang.

But father, a history buff,

didn’t think it was a cause

for celebration.

He reminded us what was missing

in our history books— massacre

of Native Americans,

and the Nationalistic fervor

that brought out man’s inhumanity

to man.

56 signers of the Declaration

of Independence were tortured

and murdered for being traitors

to England.

Hold the flag waving

and the beat of the drum.

Let’s remember the Alamo,

Pearl Harbor and 911.
